ORONO, Ontario — Spring may have arrived, but there’s still time to send winter off with a bang…and a splash! On Sunday, March 27, watch or join in as daredevils of all ages attempt to ski and snowboard their way across the 80-foot-long “puddle” at Brimacombe’s 6th Annual Puddle Jump Competition.
With more than 50 participants expected to take part in this year’s event, spectators can expect lots of splashing, laughter and wipeouts, as well as some vibrant costume choices and cheers of triumph from those who successfully glide their way to safety. Want to participate in this exciting end-of-season event? Just make sure you bring a towel and a change of clothes!
“Crossing the puddle successfully requires just the right mix of speed, agility and daring, combined with an attack of spring fever,” says Mark Rutherford, Brimacombe’s General Manager. “Competitors must conquer more than 80 feet of chilling water on equipment designed for snow in front of over 200 cheering fans, and yet, each year, more and more people of all ages rise to the challenge.”
Registration for the Puddle Jump will open at 9:00 a.m the morning of the event, and the competition will begin at 11:00 a.m. All participants are required to have a valid lift ticket or membership pass, but it is free to watch!
New this year, the event will also feature a free, post-Jump concert by rock-pop band Eleven Past One. Natives of Bowmanville, Ont., Brothers Daniel, Stephen, and Joey Richter, along with Steve Patenaude and Nathan Meima, have toured Canada and the United States performing their debut album, The Ultimate Catch. Listen to the band’s music at www.myspace.com/elevenpastonemusic or download their album from iTunes.
